Database-driven Websites by Informediation.comTM
At a certain point, it makes sense to use databases to help publish your information on the Internet or to automate a business process.
If you have more than two dozen products or members or listings of some sort, I guarantee you will save time and energy by maintaining a master database and publishing its contents versus maintaining individual web pages for each item.
Databases also have the potential to hide all the HTML code from your staff. Use a browser to add items and they're instantly published on the Net.
Here are some of the database-driven websites we've been involved with, either as designers or production. (Don't forget to see our list of non-database-driven websites too.)
- Matrix Planning Associates: www.matrixplanning.bc.ca
(Design and Production; subcontracted by Quill Services)Matrix Planning Associates has specialized in facilities planning for over 25 years. The goal of this site was to make their extensive project list available to visitors with no HTML coding required. We accomplished this by modifying their in-house database for display on the Web.
- EveryRose: www.everyrose.com
(Design and Production; subcontracted by Quill Services)Trevor Inkpen's goal is to build a database of every rose in the world and I think he's half way there. Not only does this site have listings for over 7,000 roses, there are more than 2,100 pictures! And, if you've grown a variety, you can share your comments online with other growers.
