About Michael Korican and this blog

I’ve been making films since 1978 and graduated from York University film school with Special Honours, winning the Famous Players Scholarship in my final year.

The Rolling Stone Book of Rock Video called our debut feature ‘Recorded: Live!’ “the first film about rock video”.

I served on the board of L.I.F.T. when I lived in Toronto during the eighties and managed the Bloor Cinema for Tom and Jerry. In Victoria I’ve served on the boards of both MediaNet and CineVic for many years.

I’ve been prolific over the past three decades in Victoria, having made over sixty shorts, won numerous awards, produced two works for BravoFACT! and received development funding for ‘Begbie’s Ghost’ through the CIFVF and BC Film.

But times are changing.

This blog contains my thoughts on independent filmmaking and the emerging economic system.
